It’s no secret that we’re all missing live shows right now, and have been almost all year – the hyped up stage presence, the flashing lights, the booming vibrations, and the fellowship and togetherness of the crowd. As we plan for concerts coming up in 2021, here are some powerful live performances that will bring you as close to that stimulating experience as possible from a screen.
1. Dayseeker – “Sleeptalk” at Ace of Spades
Featuring the criminally underrated vocals of Rory Rodriguez, Dayseeker puts on soul-bending performances with their soaring melodies and unified musicianship. When even the backing vocals are this good, it’s sure to make for an exhilarating experience.
2. Paramore – Let the Flames Begin / Part II
The Paramore classic from 2007 “Let the Flames Begin” and the 2013 sequel “Part II” are electrifying enough on their own, but when put together in a live set with a thrilling transition in between, it puts the band in a whole new light that demonstrates exactly why they are deserving of every ounce of their success.
3. Holding Absence – “Wilt” at the Heavy Music Awards
Another underrated band with breathtaking vocalist Lucas Woodland who is sure to gain a ton of traction in the coming decade, Holding Absence creates a spiritual atmosphere that transcends every style they are inspired by. If his voice backed by the ethereal instrumentals doesn’t blow your mind, nothing will.
4. Bring Me The Horizon – “Doomed” at Royal Albert Hall
Emotional rock music accompanied by a full choir and orchestra – you can’t get much better than that. The opening song of Bring Me The Horizon’s performance at Royal Albert Hall back in 2016 was one of many that brought a truly otherworldly experience to a venue that doesn’t normally book heavy acts. If only a world tour with this lineup was possible.
5. Trash Boat – Live in the K! Pit
The rising success of British pop punk band Trash Boat was boosted when they started embracing their hardcore tendencies without straying from their melodic and upbeat roots. Watch how flawlessly they pull off that raging anthemic energy live.
6. Neck Deep – “In Bloom” feat. Saxl Rose
Who knew saxophone could work so well in pop punk music? As if the original studio version of Neck Deep’s “In Bloom” wasn’t good enough already, this performance features the jazzy improvisations of Saxl Rose, a collaboration we didn’t know we needed.
7. Code Orange – Last Ones Left: In Fear of the End
If you have an hour to kill and enjoy the sounds of noisy industrial hardcore music, watch Code Orange tear up the stage at an empty venue for a livestream performance. The supernatural emanation of the show is sure to stimulate your senses no matter where you are watching from.
