Musicians in Lockdown: Chaoseum Interview

Chaoseum nu-metalcore

If you’ve been craving some solid new metal music reminiscent of bands such as Korn or Bullet For My Valentine, look no further. The Swiss nu-metalcore quartet Chaoseum wields a nostalgically barbarous sound that is paired with exceptional songwriting skills. Maintaining a shadowy ambience through a slew of brutish guitars, beastly vocals and a cold-blooded demeanor, they suck you into their own spine-chilling horror story they relentlessly bring to life.

Chaoseum discussed their recent activity, new album and future plans with The Outer Void:

What have you been up to during the pandemic?

We finished writing and recorded our new album Second Life. We made a video of a song called “Stick Under My Skin” and we just published an acoustic video of this one. We’re also making some videos about our life during this pandemic.

Has the lockdown impacted your songwriting this year in any way?

Not really. Our goal was to have a new album out in September, Covid or not and have the habit to work separately.

What’s your favorite show you’ve ever played?

Maybe at Les Docks in Switzerland. That was in 2019 and it was only the second show of our new singer CK Smile. I keep a really good memory. We recorded this one and made a live album, also available on Youtube.

If you could tour with any band/artist, who would it be?

Korn because our new album sounds a little bit like them. But Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine and Slipknot would be perfect too. My personal dream would be Iron Maiden, and we will be happy to start a tour again with Tarja. She and her band are really great people.

What 2020 album would you recommend to someone who believes there’s no good new music?

Viva the Underdogs from Parkway Drive. That’s a really good live album.

What are your plans for 2021?

A new album and a European tour in October, we hope so. We will also publish some videos about the band during the writing process.
