Musicians in Lockdown: Fatality Interview

English nu-metal band Fatality have been making the most of quarantine life. Experimenting with combinations of metal, rock, rap and grunge, lockdown has given them extra time to explore their style more deeply. The fierce attitude in their clean vocals alongside their bellowing screams packs their sound with a punch that would be especially entertaining in a live setting — and although they have been unable to demonstrate this lately, they are hard at work to make sure they have plenty of new material to unveil when shows start up again.

Fatality sat down with The Outer Void to discuss their recent activity and influences:

What have you been up to during the pandemic?

We’ve been busy writing, refining and recording new music. We’ve also finally managed to open an online merch store and really define our brand. Even though it’s been a really tough time in many aspects of life it’s been helpful for the band for these reasons. It’s helped us knuckle down and sort out a lot of things that we may not have had time to do if we were playing and rehearsing for shows every week.

Has the lockdown impacted your songwriting this year in any way?

In a positive way I think. We’ve had more time in the studio to listen back to our demos and tweak and refine our sound in a way that we’re all super happy with. We’ve been able to experiment with different styles and sounds which is always exciting. We’ve turned a corner creatively and we hope that our audiences will appreciate and hear that in our most recent releases.

What’s your favorite show you’ve ever played?

Probably our ‘Prey’ EP launch back in 2019. It was in our hometown so we were able to see our friends and families at the show. There was an amazing turnout at the venue as well and we raised a substantial amount for mental health charity MIND so it was an all around success.

If you could tour with any band/artist, who would it be?

We’ve been asked this a few times and we always say bands like Slipknot or Linkin Park or bands of the like. We think that our musical style and our energy would complement the live shows of these bands perfectly (without being big headed). We pride ourselves on crowd participation and high- octane performances. We truly believe we would be a perfect warm-up for bands like the aforementioned.

What 2020 album would you recommend to someone who believes there’s no good new music?

FEVER 333’s new EP ‘Wrong Generation’ is an absolute banger if they haven’t heard that one! There’s hardcore vibes, hip-hop vibes and even RATM vibes in there. Travis Barker features on it as well! It also has an extremely important message behind it based around the BLM movement which is so important in this day and age.

What are your plans for 2021?

We’re going to keep doing what we’re doing. We’re going to keep recording and releasing music every 6-8 weeks until we can play live again. We need to keep giving our audiences something new to listen to until they can also get their fix of live music and we need to keep ourselves going. We absolutely love writing music with each other and it really is our passion to keep doing it!
