Musicians in Lockdown: VAYA Interview

The psychedelic layering of sounds from Canadian duo VAYA provides a truly mind-bending experience that throws off listeners and sucks them into a new world. With the eerie nine-minute video for their song “SEXUAL” winning best music video at the Montreal Independent Film Festival, they are just getting started with proving themselves as must-hear musicians.

VAYA sat down with The Outer Void to share their recent activity and influences:

What have you been up to during the pandemic?

Hi Outer Void. We were and are focusing on the realization of our second album. It means working deeply on the layers of the first live and then physical version.

Has the lockdown impacted your songwriting this year in any way?

I was not in the flow of writing. First I gave birth in February so I had to do my mom’s job. Then I just finished recording the album in January. I was and am still super focused on the post-production of it in severals dimension; visual, sounds, promotion,….

What’s your favorite show you’ve ever played?

I am waiting for it 😉 Trust me, it will be raw!

If you could tour with any band/artist, who would it be?

Well, Jack White, Grandson, Coldplay, Sigur Ros.

What 2020 album would you recommend to someone who believes there’s no good new music?

What are your plans for 2021?

Continuing what we have started: Conquering the whole Universe.
