Architects “Animals” Track Review, New Album Announcement

Architects Animals Review

British metal connoisseurs Architects have announced their ninth album, For Those That Wish to Exist, and given a promising first impression with the menacing new single “Animals.”

While this song does explore new territory for the band, that’s not to say it lacks the heaviness of their roots. It’s loaded with ominous guitar chugging and pounding drums that meld surprisingly well with vocalist Sam Carter’s sinister cleans and ghostly falsettos. They combine this with eerie synths to form a brewing apocalyptic vibe that would fit perfectly into catastrophic climax movie scenes. The brief rests in the breakdown emphasize the impending effect, and the synth that comes in imitates the sound of an alarm. Together it feels like a call to arms against a zombie storming or an alien invasion. There are some lyrical clichés here and there, but that is the track’s weakest link and can easily go unnoticed thanks to Carter’s haunting vocal delivery.

The new album For Those That Wish to Exist is out February 26th via Epitaph Records. For now, you can listen to “Animals” on your favorite streaming platform and check out the music video and tracklisting below.
