Musicians in Lockdown: Fatal Switch Interview

Fatal Switch rap metal rock

Canadian quintet Fatal Switch fuse together rap, metal and rock to devise a relentless combination of attitude and aggression. Down-tuned guitars and blast beats bring out the underlying venom of the vocals through unconventional means that may throw you off for the first listen. Eager to get back to performing soon, Fatal Switch have been polishing their sound and finding new ways to develop as a band.

Fatal Switch sat down with The Outer Void to talk about their recent activity and influences:

What have you been up to during the pandemic?

Trying to figure out how the music industry is going to recover has definitely threw us for a loop and we haven’t quite figured out what we should be doing so we are doing what we do best during this pandemic… making music! Writing new material has been a pretty big focal point for us as we try and get our footing on promoting our debut album Doctors & Demons during these very strange times.

Has the lockdown impacted your songwriting this year in any way?

In a positive way I would say. With shows on pause we really shifted the gears on the songwriting process and grew as a band. We are perfecting, polishing and refining songs as we evolve in ways we could have never imagined.

What’s your favorite show you’ve ever played?

Indie Week 2019 was really the best executed and most fun we ever had on stage. Despite some technical set backs the sound guy was really amazing and knew the venue like the back of his hand. This led to an incredible sound that enabled us to connect with our audience and slay the set.

If you could tour with any band/artist, who would it be?

Wow gee I don’t know. I wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to tour with any major act but if I had my pick, I think it would have to be Rage Against The Machine. I think our sound is similar to theirs and they are definitely one of the godfathers of our genres.

What 2020 album would you recommend to someone who believes there’s no good new music?

Lot’s of good music has been put out in 2020. Music to Be Murdered By (Eminem), Extinction Level Event 2 (Busta Ryhmes), Ohms (The Deftones) and of course Doctors & Demons (Fatal Switch) to name a few killer albums of 2020.

What are your plans for 2021?

We plan to keep plugging away at new material so we can record our next studio album in 2021 and hopefully TOUR!! That would be awesome! Let’s see how things play out. We will also continue to work our first record into the new year and make as much progress as we can.
