The metalcore aficionados from Fort Worth, Texas known as Oh, Sleeper have returned with three new singles from their upcoming album, Bloodied / Unbowed. The first full-length record from the band since 2011’s Children of Fire is being released only a week from today, on July 12th. The group has been teasing the hope of a new album since releasing the song “Oxygen” way back in 2016. Since then, fans have been anxiously waiting for more as the band kept assuring the next album was on its way.
Finally, we have some heavy new material from them to blast through our speakers – and it proves Oh, Sleeper are still the metalcore virtuosos their fans know and love. Vocalist Micah Kinard’s unique screams are more varied than ever, utilizing a wide range of vocal techniques that all carry his signature tone and energy that are instantly recognizable. Singer and guitarist Shane Blay may have been putting out music more recently with his other band, Wovenwar, but to hear his soaring cleans tied together with Kinard’s screams again is a true nostalgic release for any old Oh, Sleeper listeners.
With these new tracks, titled “The Island”, “Fissure” and “Decimation & Burial”, we are reminded just how talented the band is, how perfectly they work together, and how they stood out in a scene that was once flooded with stale, derivative metalcore bands that would easily be forgotten. With their beloved combination of eclectic screams, soulful melodies, pummeling drums that accent the shredding guitars, and menacing dynamic contrast, Oh, Sleeper are showing that they are going to be remembered for a long time.
Until the full album is released next Friday, you can listen to “The Island”, “Fissure”, “Decimation & Burial” and “Oxygen” on your favorite streaming services, or listen below and check out the tracklist for Bloodied / Unbowed.
